Our three (3) Competition Judges have professional expertise in Ballroom, Country Western and/or Swing / Hustle such that all three dance categories are represented across the adjudicating panel.
As time permits throughout the evening there will be general dancing.
The event will be scored using the "Skating System" as defined below.
The Skating System is a method of judging that is used world-wide to score dance competitions.
A primary feature of this system is the way it ranks competitors based on their achievement of a majority of scores by judges for a particular ranking and not on average scores. The effect is to negate the effect that a single judge may have on your placements.
For instance, if there are three judges and two rank you first and the third ranks you 7th, under the Skating System you would be awarded first place because you had a majority (2 out of 3) of first place scores.
This is in contrast to outcomes that may arise if average scores were used.
For instance, if you had two first place scores and one 7th, your average score would be 3.0 (1 + 1 + 7 = 9 divided by 3) It would be possible for another competitor to receive three 2nd place scores for and average of 2.0 (2 + 2 + 2 = 6 divided by 3). Under the Skating system, you would place 1st, if averages were used, you would place second.
